The South African edition of Africa Communications Week (ACW) hosted by PR Trends ZA will take place on 22 May and 25 May in Johannesburg and Cape Town respectively under the theme:"Telling an authentic and balanced South African narrative: Trends and Insights".
The South Africa edition of African Communications Week is a half-day seminar with a lecture by the ie business school on "Trends & Insights from South America: lessons for South African Communications Practitioners" followed by a panel discussion on "Telling an authentic and balanced South African narrative using PR and Communications".
Africa Communications Week is the premier gathering for communications professionals and thought leaders looking to impact the current narratives on Africa.
Powered by a virtual international team of multi-talented communications professionals who share a vision for transformative change in Africa through strategic communications, Africa Communications Week aims to convene communications leaders from various backgrounds across the world, to critically assess the role of communications in Africa’s socio-economic development.
Narratives surrounding Africa have an impact on the socio-economic development of the continent, Africa focused communicators must therefore be strategic about shaping a narrative that is so vital to the transformation of the continent. "Africa’s reputation at home and abroad affects the inflow of foreign direct investment (FDI), curbs tourism, shapes the perception of Africans living abroad in their adoptive countries, and fuels stereotypes that lead to various issues such as interethnic conflict and xenophobia on the continent. The impact therefore of communication in Africa's development cannot be underestimated. " explains ACW co-founder Harrison. ACW is open to all communications professionals with an expertise/interest in Africa, from African countries and across the globe.
Each year around Africa Day, a series of conferences and events will be organized by communications professionals and organizations in Africa and across the world to encourage Africa focused communications professionals connect, engage and reflect on the role of communications in Africa’s development. The South African edition of the event will feature a lecture sponsored by the ie business school on "What we can learn from South American communications campaigns".
ACW also promotes knowledge and professional development by hosting informative webinars and masterclasses as well as providing practical tools on how Africa focused communicators can begin to advance more realistic narratives about Africa.
"The South African edition of ACW is a learning event that will bring together communications practitioners across all sectors, encouraging the sharing of lessons and insights and growing networks of collaboration with the aim of ensuring that we are constantly the practice of communications", says Nelisa Ngqulana, Managing Director o PR Trends ZA
